Description for last years camp (2018) follows…
Learn to Play Stuff with ChristopherO and special guests!
There are two primary components of the week as well as a special surprise each day.
Each camper will choose and design a “playable/interactive” object that they will develop thru the week. All projects will have a power source and a micro-controller brain which they’ll be taught to program via computer. Campers will interface with a variety of input and output devices, ie. sensors and actuators. Projects can be developed both individually and in group configurations. Upon completion, campers will get to take their project home.
The second primary element of the camp is that the campers will get to help me develop one of my projects, “Squirt Me, Squirt You”, an interactive game with giant squirting flowers and large bouncy-ball buttons which will certainly help us to cool down!
Hands on experience with various technologies is a key feature of camp, which may include gesture-capture sensors, ultrasound, buttons, speakers, solenoids/valves (which can turn on and off water, air, gas, etc. and also be used to strike objects), motors, speakers, lasers, etc.! They will also get to develop an “asset” to drop into a Virtual Reality video-game like world template I have pre-built in Unity3D. This could be sound, music, art, or 3D model! All technologies will be introduced within a historical context with each day honoring a historical artist/inventor as well as on-going discussions about the possible positive and negative impacts of technology.
Each day there will be a guest artist and/or assistant to help run things and share their gifts. We will spend time each day keeping the Brain balanced and creative juices flowing with physical games and music-improvisation, which will include building and running an obstacle course.
Campers are encouraged to attend both sessions if possible so they can go deeper into the areas they are feeling passionate about, but attending either one is great too!
For more information and a registration form please send me a text or email, or give me a call soon as class size is limited to around six kids and I need to get all the parts ordered. Thank you!
